ASwing Dancing Steps: Understanding the Basics

It is not that difficult to learn Swing dancing steps.Even though it involves some complicated movements, mostly every step gets repeated with six to eight patterns. You should first observe those doing swing dance if you are really interested to learn the dance. That way, you will have a rudimentary grasp on the moves which can serve you well if you take lessons. Lessons are offered not only at dance studios but also online. The best lessons, of course, are ones you attend in person rather than virtually. It's also important to understand that different types of swing have different steps.

Examples of types of swing include Savoy Swing, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Boogie Woogie, St. Louis Imperial Swing, Carolina Shag and many more. Different geographic locations often have their own forms of swing practiced by dancers. So, before you review instructional materials like books or videos, the best thing to do is find out the primary form of swing dance practiced in your locality. Once you know that, you will know what kind of swing dance you need to watch.

There are so many different moves that they can't all be discussed in one page of text. Examples of classic swing moves include the Swingout, Tuck Turn, Push Around and Lindy Circle. These are only a few examples as there are a great number of moves and steps you can learn. Different dances incorporate different moves. The Shag, a basic dance, consists of moves like the Basic Step, Kick Throughs, Promenade Step and Jig Walk. Once you know these individual moves, you can put them together to execute this common swing dance.

The best way to learn swing dancing steps is to take a class. By doing so, you get immediate feedback from an experienced instructor. And, you get the benefit of dancing in a class setting with a partner or group. Even if you do take classes, it helps to practice the basic steps and moves at home in between classes. The more practice you get, the faster you'll become an accomplished dancer. Many students like to take their knowledge to local dance clubs or go on to compete in dance tournaments. Swing dance is hotter than ever, so if you've thought of learning the moves there is no better time than right now!
